In 1993 the first Flavored Malt Beverage (FMB) was introduced. Basically FMB’s are a mixture of “clear malt” a filtered, mostly odorless and tasteless clear malt derivative of beer, natural flavors, and artificial colors are added. Many FMB’s have come and gone since 1993. I have represented most of them and a few things have always bothered me about them. First they only sell well in the summer months, due to the citrus flavors and light colors. Secondly most people, including me, can’t drink more than one or two with getting a burning sensation in your throat, heartburn, and what most people describe as “gut rot”. My challenge to the group of scientists we worked with was to create a line of FMB’s that were root and plant based in flavor verse the traditional citrus flavors most FMB’s have. The results were a success. We’ve created several FMB’s that are refreshing, smooth tasting, with no after taste, no burning sensation going down, without heartburn or the odd feeling in your stomach. It is drank year round, making it the obvious first choice to prove our theory that it is possible to have a great tasting alcoholic beverage that you do not need to “acquire” a taste for and that FMB’s can be a popular drink year round. Something as unique as High Five® Spiked Cola deserves a unique vessel that allows it to be consumed anywhere you’re allowed to drink, at the beach, by the pool, on the golf course, you get the idea. The tall “sleek” can is unique to FMB’s but familiar to consumers of other beverages. We thought it was time someone put an FMB in a “go anywhere” can.
